All of Beethoven’s Symphonies

A tradition in some universities and colleges is to play all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies to celebrate the end of Finals Week.  This is the end of Finals Week where I teach, so enjoy!

Lots of Beethoven Piano Music for the Weekend

Over ten hours!  ‘Nuff said!

Quote for the Week

Beethoven Free CROPPED

Musik höhere Offenbarung ist als alle Weisheit und Philosophie. (“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.”)

–Ludwig van Beethoven, as reported by Bettina von Arnim in a letter to Goethe, 28 May 1810, Goethe’s Briefwechsel mit einem Kinde: Seinem Denkmal, Volume 2, Dümmler, 1835, p. 193; courtesy of Wikiquote

Movie Night: Immortal Beloved

A movie about Beethoven, starring Gary Oldman.

Some Beethoven for the Weekend

Some Music for Friday (and last Friday, too!)

I forgot, alas, to make the usual music post last Friday.  To make up, I’m putting some extra in today.  Enjoy!

Beethoven for Finals Week, Last Day: The Glorious Ninth

Beethoven for Finals Week: Symphonies 7 and 8

Had to do the Eighth movement by movement.  Also, last year I must have started this series on a Sunday instead of a Monday, since I’m having to repost two for today.  Nevertheless, enjoy.

Beethoven for Finals Week: The 6th Symphony

Pastoral.  Try not to think of Smurfs.

Beethoven for Finals Week: 4th and 5th Symphonies

I couldn’t find a single video of the whole Fourth, nor could I get all movements from the same performance.  Also, the Fifth deserves a day of its own, but if I don’t double up here I won’t get the week done right.  Oh, well.  It’s still Ludwig Van’s symphonies, so it’s OK.
